Do Cats Spread Bird Flu?

The recent appearance of cats killed by bird flu in Austria, Germany, Thailand and Indonesia has put virologists on alert, who wonder what the role of these cats is in the spread of H5N1 , the virus that causes this disease. The investigations carried out to date reveal that the kittens are accidental victims and that they are therefore not in the expansionist plans of this viral agent. However, there are reasons for concern, as cats do not normally suffer from the "common flu" and, if they do catch it, they do not release a large amount of virus. But the case of bird flu is different: H5N1 kills cats and they infect each other , possibly through saliva and feces, as has been experimentally shown. To date, there is no evidence that the virus passes from cats to humans.
