It’s summer. You are at the airport about to take the flight that will take you to your vacation destination. You have already checked in your luggage and now it is time to go through the security controls. Although everything is correct, you do not carry prohibited objects and your bottles of liquids have the allowed volume, you cannot avoid it: your hands sweat and your nerves invade you.
You feel identified? Do not worry! It’s called “delinquent syndrome” and, according to a survey conducted by the Flight Observatory, 62% of travelers suffer from it . The study, which analyzed in detail the feelings of more than 1,500 regular users of air transport when passing through police controls at airports, was carried out through the web and social networks .
Some of the most common symptoms among travelers are nerves, malaise and cold sweats, and 26% of those surveyed called this experience “the worst of the trip” . In addition, 86% of users said they had been searched at least once, and most complained that metal detection arches have excessive sensitivity.
The nerves are repeated when passing the hand luggage through the belt , especially since security measures control the liquids and the volume of the containers. About half of those surveyed affirm that they have been forced on some occasion to dispose of them, a situation that also generates discomfort, in addition to the corresponding doubts about the destination of the requisitioned objects. Most users think that the airport staff keep them, 35% think that they dispose of them, and only 5% think that they recycle them, compared to 2% who consider that they are handed over to an NGO.
