Dolphin Show at the Georgia Aquarium

The Georgia Aquarium is one of Atlanta’s most popular attractions, whether you’re a tourist or a local. Every weekend, this wonderful underwater paradise is full of families, couples and friends who have traveled from all over the world to marvel at life under the sea (and the river!).

With the new Georgia Aquarium Total Ticket, all activities at the aquarium are included in the basic ticket price, including the two attractions that previously required a small additional fee. These additional attractions were the 4-D Depot show and AT&T Dolphin Tales, a live action dolphin show. You will now be able to reserve your seat for Dolphin Tales when you purchase your ticket online.

I had the opportunity to personally see the dolphin show on a busy Saturday afternoon. The very popular show takes place only a few times a day, so be sure to plan your visit accordingly. I climbed the steps to the bleacher and found a seat among what I estimated to be 500 excited guests. Skip the first few rows unless you want to get wet – these “splash zone” seats are marked to let you know you’ll want to break your umbrella. Although he was sitting far from the front, about two-thirds of the way on the far right, he still had an excellent view of the show.

So what can you expect from the actual show? Well, the first thing you need to know is that it’s not just about the dolphins. It’s actually a musical with a little story, directed by a magical ship captain who calls on the dolphins to help save his ship. That means you’ll have to swallow some, well, theatrical cheesy with your dolphin tricks. If you are up to that, the production value and the dolphins themselves are truly spectacular. High-flying throws, fun tricks, and friendly human trainers put on an impressive water ballet that lasts about 30 minutes.

Parents should be aware that the show contains some scenes that may seem scary to young children. There is an evil sea monster that is depicted with quite a bit of noise, darkness, and strobes. Of the children seated around this guide, only a few looked scared.

AT&T Dolphin Tales is definitely a must see for families with young children. Kids will love the singing part, the colorful show, and the amazing dolphins. Adults without children may want to attend now, the show is included in the total ticket, but be prepared for a silly show.
