DS is a firm linked to the history of France . As we have told you in other articles, their models have been part of the development of the automotive industry in the neighboring country. They did it in the most sophisticated and elegant area of France, accompanying those refined families who were looking for distinction in their vehicle . Many of you will know that we are talking about the iconic DS Jaws that was not only beautiful, it also incorporated a series of improvements in equipment and mechanics that made it superior to the rest of its segment. For this reason, and many others, DS has been part of the fleet of vehicles of the French government. The last to arrive was the DS 7 Crossback Élysée, a specific unit based on the Crossback E-Tense 4×4 300 with full armor, elongated chassis and superior equipment.
Since the proclamation of the Fifth Republic, the DS was part of the president’s automobile fleet. Then it became the SM and after the split from the Citroën premium firm, DS is in charge of the mobility of the Presidency of the French Republic. There have been seven presidents who have chosen this firm as the one in charge of their official trips on wheels, with special mention at the moment of the inauguration of Emmanuel Macron in 2017. The president toured the Champs-Elysées aboard a DS 7 Presidential Crossback , which it is now replaced by a new plug-in hybrid variant.
DS 7 Crossback Élysée
The DS 7 Crossback Élysée is based on the firm’s PHEV SUV, with the most performance engine and all-wheel drive . They are 300 CV of force, more than necessary to be able to drag an elongated body 20 cm from the central pillar. This configuration is made in order to improve the interior habitability of the DS 7, vital for President Macron to use it as a comfortable and spacious work tool, with 545 millimeters of legroom.
The Ink Blue hue chosen for the French Republic model is paired with independent rear seats in Basalt Black leather , with the signature DS watch strap touch. This division between the rear seats leaves us a larger armrest, with document holders, wireless and USB chargers , among others. In addition, the roof has been clad in Alcantara for a greater sense of warmth and class.
The President’s car
As a presidential car, the DS 7 Crossback Élysée incorporates some specific options such as its flashing blue / red flashing lights positioned at the front of the headlamps. In addition, it has removable flag holders and logos “RF” (French Republic) on the front doors and “tricolor” on the front and trunk. Neither do the specific 20-inch wheels and a highly exaggerated antenna go unnoticed, which you may have already deduced that it serves as a telecommunications system reserved for the Presidency of the Republic.
After body modifications, the length of the Macron DS 7 Crossback reaches 4.79 meters with a wheelbase of 2.94 meters (20 cm more) . The width remains the same, 1.91 meters, the same as the height of 1.62 meters but we do not know its weight, clearly affected by the armor.
We will be able to see the DS 7 Crossback Élysée for the first time during the commemoration of the armistice of November 11, 1918 , since it will mark the entry of the fleet of the Presidency of the French Republic.
