DS separated itself from Citroën to show a different and more exclusive vision of the automotive industry. It went on to become the premium firm of the PSA group and the greatest exponent of French class and craftsmanship in the world of four wheels. The buyer of a DS seeks luxury, sophistication and distinction , without sacrificing aspects such as safety and technological advances. That same user will know the latest trends in fashion, the most exquisite sewing firms and the value of the handmade product. For this reason, DS tries to take maximum care of the small details and offer a vehicle with its own personality. In tune with this philosophy, the firm introduces the Art Leather finish throughout the DS range: DS 3 Crossback, DS 7 Crossback and DS 9.
Fashion connoisseurs will recognize the inspiration behind this finish and the work behind it. DS always reminds us of his involvement with French savoir-faire , which would come to be translated as French know-how. A mantra that coincides with the use of leather treated with care and the elaboration of high leatherwork by the masters of footwear. The designers at DS Design Studio Paris have been inspired by their work to create this interior finish. Quite a challenge, and more so considering that manual work had to be transferred to larger automobile production.
What does the Art Leather hide?
The first model to show off this finish was the DS E-Tense and it involved completely manual work, like those carried out before the haute couture catwalks. It was the previous step to the presentation of the new DS 7 Crossback, which already introduces this interior package together with some aspects of the E-Tense. From the DS department they are convinced of the success of Art Leather and, as Abine Pannetrat, responsible for colors and materials DS Design Studio Paris comments: “We were directly inspired by the world of luxury fur to reach this level. The effect that we are able to offer is of great aesthetic impact. Naturally, we cannot expect such a high-quality finish without using a carefully chosen raw material such as, in our case, the Nappa leather that we use. ”.
In order to make the transition from manual crafts to industrialization , various solutions have been used. The choice of pigments and the study of the dosage have made it possible to use an industrialized technique without affecting its level of final finish, while maintaining excellent quality . For this they have had to carry out hundreds of tests and investigate the technology and machines used in a large automotive plant.
Where can I find this finish?
As we discussed earlier, DS will offer the Art Leather finish on all its models. Currently, PSA’s signature luxury range consists of the DS 3 Crossback, DS 7 Crossback and the DS 9. It will be available in the DS Opera versions and the images speak for themselves. In addition, the patina effect on the skin reacts with light and, depending on the direction in which the material has been worked , it will be seen in one way or another. This will allow us to have a completely personalized and unique cabin depending on the hours of the day.
Now you can have your DS more agile, easy and without complications. DS Automobiles is committed to flexibility in the use of your vehicle with the launch of Flex & Free DS , a mobility and renting platform that is part of Free2Move.
