Emma Stone: From romantic comedy to "more serious" cinema

The careers of the actors and actresses are full, how logical and normal it is with ups and downs. Some start well and end worse given the expectations and others go around with big and small projects over the years. What is somewhat more difficult is to start in youth comedy and gradually evolve towards top-of-the-line cinema, serious and in the main award categories every year. This last case briefly summarizes well the trajectory of Emma Stone, who this weekend signs her first interpretation of a villain with Cruella. If we travel back to her beginnings, after appearing briefly in children’s series such as Hotel dulce hotel and Malcom, the first play important for the actress was Supersalidos. The hit teen comedy didn’t just spot Jonah Hill and Michael Cera, it also led to the rise to fame of an Emma Stone who proved herself like a fish in water in the teen comedy. So much so that if she had lived professionally in the 80s, John Hughes would have selected her to star in any of his iconic films. During the next three years, Stone chained similar projects: A bunny girl on campus, The ghosts of my ex-girlfriends, Welcome to Zombieland and Rumors and lies are some of the examples of a career that could have been perfectly pigeonholed, because when the interpreters carry a long time participating in works of the same genre, the public does not see them outside of that space (see cases like Jim Carrey in comedy or Schwarzenegger in action). Emma Stone avoided this with Maids and Ladies, a key film in her career as it would be the door to the Oscars and the possibility of seeing her in a dramatic story. The world of heroic blockbusters opened the doors for her to be Gwen Stacy and Woody Allen signed her for Magic in the Moonlight, but it would be the following year in 2014 when her figure really took off. Birdman was her first Oscar nomination and the consecration that Emma Stone was called to be one of the great actresses in history. But it would not be until two years later when she would get the Oscar for best leading actress for La la land. Two years later she would get another nomination for her role in The Favorite, Emma Stone had already managed to be a regular in the first line of the interpretation. Among his future projects is a new collaboration with Yorgos Lanthimos on Poor Things, alongside Mark Ruffallo.
