The new coronavirus 2019-nCoV was first detected in December 2019 in the Chinese city of Wuhan, which is currently isolated and where 11 million people now live locked up in their homes. As of February 26, the disease has claimed the lives of 2,762 people and infected 81,005, most of them residing in China.

The symptoms of this new coronavirus can appear in just two days after infection and up to 14 days later and consist of fever, breathing problems, cough, sneezing and shortness of breath . The contagion occurs when a sick person coughs or sneezes and expels tiny droplets that a healthy person can inhale. Contagion can occur at a distance of up to 2 meters.

Among the advice that has been given to prevent infection is, mainly, washing your hands frequently with soap and water or disinfectant gel, after sneezing or coughing, after going to the bathroom, before eating, before, during and after doing. food, touching an animal … Also sneezing towards the elbow or into a disposable tissue and not covering our mouth with our hand (we would be filling our hands with viruses); stay away from people who are sneezing or coughing ; go to the doctor if we have any of the symptoms that we have mentioned; avoid going to closed and crowded places as well as to markets where there are live animals and contact with them.

In terms of prevention of COVID-19, masks deserve a separate chapter and that is the fear of contagion of a disease that causes fewer deaths than seasonal flu and whose mortality is, so far, only 2% despite its high incidence, makes many people begin to consider getting one to avoid contagion. Well, experts say that it is not necessary to wear a mask but to follow the prevention measures that have already been given. The use of a mask is only recommended for people who already have the coronavirus, health personnel, those who are caring for COVID-19 patients and those who have symptoms that make them think they have been infected.
