The stormy summer will remain with us in Germany for the time being. One expert even warns of torrential rain.
Wiesbaden – The weather * in summer * in Germany is going crazy and just doesn’t come to rest. The heat alternates with storms *. The world is no different: Hundreds of people died in the heat wave in Canada, and 34.3 degrees Celsius were measured north of the Arctic Circle – more than ever before. And the next heat record could already be cracked next weekend, according to graduate meteorologist Dominik Jung * from wetter.net. Unprecedented heat is also looming in Europe.
Temperatures of over 45 degrees Celsius are expected on the Iberian Peninsula at the weekend. At its peak, even 48 to 50 degrees Celsius are possible, says Jung. This would set the all-time heat record in Europe – which has been in existence for over 40 years. On July 10, 1977, a temperature of 48 degrees Celsius was measured in Greece. It is quite possible that this value will be exceeded in Spain.
Weather in Germany: forecast expects huge rainfall
According to Jung, Germany will continue with the stormy summer. There is a threat of heavy rains, especially for the east and south the weather models * calculate a dangerous VB weather situation. A VB weather (pronounced: five B) is known for the huge masses of water it brings with it. The best-known example of such a flood * in Germany: The Elbe flood in August 2002.
This weather situation is repeatedly responsible for flooding in Germany. This year, too, forecasts show that we could face some more floods. The leading weather models expect torrential precipitation. The US weather model of NOAA briefly forecast 350 liters of rain * per square meter in some regions of Germany – a real horror forecast. Even the experienced meterologist has “seldom seen such a heavy precipitation forecast”. On Wednesday morning (07/07/2021) the forecast showed only 200 liters of rain. Still an unusual amount for Germany.
- This is how the weather will be in the coming days:
- Thursday (July 8th, 2021): 21 to 26 degrees, new showers and thunderstorms from the west, sometimes severe weather
- Friday (July 9th, 2021): 17 to 24 degrees, changeable mix of sun, clouds, showers and thunderstorms, sometimes severe weather
- Saturday (July 10th, 2021): 22 to 28 degrees, nice day, sun again and again, hardly any showers
- Sunday (July 11th, 2021): 20 to 28 degrees, mix of sun and clouds, new showers and thunderstorms
- Monday (July 12th, 2021): 23 to 31 degrees, changeable and humid, new thunderstorms and severe weather possible
- Tuesday (July 13th, 2021): 17 to 23 degrees, mix of sun and clouds, repeated showers and thunderstorms
Weather in Germany: stable summer weather not in sight
According to Jung Germany, the heat is spared for now. But the VB weather will bring a lot of rain over the Adriatic in the next 7 to 10 days. Whether there is a threat of major floods, as in 2002, is still “uncertain, but not unlikely,” says Jung. But it would suit our tropical and stormy summer.
The beautiful summer in Germany doesn’t really want to get going. The friendly hours only last a short time before showers, thunderstorms * and thunderstorms take their place. It should stay that way for now. The different air masses over Germany are still responsible for this: In the east it remains with the very warm and very humid air masses, in the west they are cooler. And in between?
It keeps popping. And that won’t change anytime soon. “Stable summer weather is still not in sight this summer,” says Jung. “The only stable thing is the storm situation these days and weeks.” The VB weather could be the climax of the weather this year. However, it is still too early for precise statements and warnings. (spr) * op-online.de is an offer from IPPEN.MEDIA.
