Wilhelmshaven – The identity of a man found dead in the North Sea near Helgoland in 1994 is still unknown. The Wilhelmshaven police had received around 40 tips on this matter since the beginning of February, said a spokeswoman on request.

The call is part of a project by police authorities and universities in several countries to use new methods to clarify unsolved murder cases, so-called cold cases.
The body of the approximately 50-year-old man, weighed down with weights, was found in the North Sea on July 11, 1994, and it also showed signs of abuse. With his business tie, expensive clothes and shoes, the stranger looked like a well-to-do businessman. However, it does not match any internationally known missing persons case.
