Fight for language justice! Super O and Sevichica with a new mission

The series opens a new season with 16 new chapters dedicated to combating “idiomatic ignorance” in the era of social networks and digital platforms.

For all those who have decided to take spelling rules lightly on the grounds that social networks are more “relaxed”, Charles Ocoró, better known as Professor Super O, has some advice, because in this age of technology , its iconic slogan “Fight for Language Justice!” is even more powerful.

For this reason, the owner of the world chain of ceviche El Mariscón and his inseparable partner Locumí Pacheco Silveria de Jesús, the very funny Sevichica, have set themselves the challenge of “fighting idiomatic ignorance”, this time in the world of social networks , digital platforms, applications, web pages and WhatsApp, among others.

Before entering to talk with Santiago Moure, one of the creatives behind this successful series that has already accumulated 15 years and several seasons as Professor Super O Historico, Reloaded and Government Online, it is important to remember that these two superheroes born in the Colombian Pacific , they work hard to correct common idiomatic mistakes in everyday life .

The story goes that, as a child, Charles Ocoró and his grandfather Secundino fell on two tons of shrimp while they were going for a walk. His grandfather, when he died, gave him all his energy and the supernatural power of the knowledge of the Spanish language and a very important mission: to fight language ignorance.

To the more than 350 adventures lived by Super O and Sevichica, there are now 16 new chapters of the new season , among which are Googlear and rotten slices, Wikiseviche and Cybercriminals of wasapeo that take place in the Coffee Region, Antioquia, Llanos Orientales, Pacific Region and, of course, El Mariscón, that iconic place turned into a center of operations, where these superheroes of letters work, located somewhere in Bogotá.

Santiago, what is the central mission in the new season of Professor Super O?

That we manage to create good links with technology, not by letting ourselves be dominated by it, but by learning to use it. There are three things of the technological era that make me gray: put ‘what’ with k, for the sake of speed; emoticons, which are widely used with the story that it is about simplifying times and dequeism. Ah! also the use of commas is one of the strongest mistakes, idiomatically speaking.

How has the evolution of Professor Super O been?

Throughout the seasons, the characters have been affirmed and the way of telling the stories and involving the moral has evolved. The animation was also transformed, achieving greater fluidity in the drawing without changing its style. I think it has aged well.

How is the creative process of the characters?

There is a certain irony and jokes around Colombianness, folklore, autochthonous, but handled with respect. I find it very interesting that the only superhero in our country is a defender of the language that is so abused in Colombia.

For those who are just getting to know him, how do you describe Super O?

Well, Charles Ocoró is a character from the people, a Chocoano who, due to a supernatural touch, is endowed with certain gifts, who suddenly appears and corrects the language. He is a transvestite without a doubt, because he changes his clothes and dresses in another. That’s what a transvestite is: don’t think badly!

What does it tell us about the other characters? Are they inspired by real life?

Those characters certainly exist. Cartoons need a real reference. So, the archetype of the Chocoana lady who sells lunches and prepares sancochos exists in the fishmongers on Calle 22 in Bogotá.

Why do you and Martín de Francisco want to save the world, what is the crusade?

The intention is quixotic. Reduce the rates of ignorance, even if it is a ‘little bit’. That is what I find the most commendable and what makes the project more interesting.

Do you consider that Super O is happy or sometimes frustrated?

He is happy when he makes people understand the mess he has committed and corrects it. But I think that Super O’s emotional life must be terrible, he must live in constant anxiety, especially here where the language is abused so much. I would recommend that Super O take antidepressants.

If you think you have managed to reduce a ‘little’ the rate of idiomatic ignorance?

Yes, but we have a very good memory for oblivion. We forget that we learned to do it right and we do it wrong again; so Super O must insist until we make no more idiomatic mistakes; or at least technological.

Martín is a valluno, but what is it that unites you so much with the Colombian Pacific?

I married a valluna and in some way I have always had a relationship with the people of this department, indeed, some believe that I am also from there, but I want to tell the people of the Valley that I am in charge of denying make them look bad.

This production has received four India Catalina statuettes and was a finalist in the Best Children’s Program category at the Kidcom Iberoamerica Awards. Martín de Francisco, is in charge of impersonating Sevichica with his voice, while Santiago Moure lends his to Super O. Along with them the general director Hernán Zajec, the creative director Antonio Guerra and an outstanding team of illustrators, editors, musicians and voice actors, make possible the adventures of Professor Super O.
