On March 2, the COTY (Car Of The Year) 2020 award will take place , but new vehicles are put to the test every day.
The commercial success of a model depends, to a large extent, on three aspects: innovation, the excellence of its design and the mechanical evolution it presents. These pillars will support, or not, the purchase, depending on the financial possibilities of the owner. The people will ultimately decide on the life of a car and its presence on the market. Manufacturers must work to pass that cut.
Winning the Car of the Year award in Europe is a big claim. This award is presented annually within the framework of the Geneva Motor Show, the most important meeting of the sector in Europe. The seven finalists for this edition are: BMW 1 Series, Ford Puma, Peugeot 208, Porsche Taycan, Renault Clio, Tesla Model 3 and Toyota Corolla .
These finalists have been selected by the COTY jury, made up of 60 journalists specialized in the sector and belonging to different newspapers of great circulation. The 23 most important European countries on a commercial level are represented, Spain being one of the most significant with 6 members on the jury. This group of experts are in charge of deciding the winner, which in 2019 was the Jaguar i-Pace .
Reviewing the list of finalists, there are details that surprise, and a lot: it is the decade of the SUV; All brands launch larger or smaller crossover models, of one or another engine, premium or general … They are the kings of the salons, yes, but only one SUV model has reached the grand finale: the Ford Puma.
The utility vehicles , which seem forgotten by the general public, have the representation of the Renault Clio and the Peugeot 208. The BMW 1 Series was one of the most anticipated in this final, due to its change to front-wheel drive and the notable evolution of its platform . They could not miss the electric ones , with the prominent presence of the Porsche Taycan and the accessible Tesla Model 3. The Toyota Corolla and its conventional hybrid system is a bestseller to always be reckoned with. There is nothing left to know the winner so, let’s see what argument each one presents (in alphabetical order) to take the long-awaited victory.
