First Michael Jordan sneakers go up for auction for a price never seen before

Michael Jordan, born on February 17, 1963 in New York, is considered the best basketball player in history. During his professional career, he won six rings with the Chicago Bulls and claimed 10 top scorer titles, among other milestones. With this in mind, it stands to reason that the sneakers that Michael Jordan made his rookie debut in became the most expensive ever sold at auction.

Specifically, they are ‘Nike Air Ships’ that someone will buy for between 1 and 1.5 million dollars . The auction will be held on October 24 at the Aria Resort and Casino in Las Vegas by the British auction house Shoteby’s. Brahm Wachter, director of urban clothing and modern collectibles at Sotheby’s, has spoken with ‘CNBC’, and has explained that few items are as coveted as those of Michael Jordan. Also, the ex-basketball player’s market is getting stronger and stronger.

The shoes are what Michael Jordan wore in his 84/85 rookie season . They are ‘Nike Air Ships’ in white and red designed by Brucke Kilgore. Until now they were owned by Tommie Tim III Lewis, a ball boy who in the 1980s worked on the Chicago Bulls court. Back then Michael Jordan gave him his sneakers.

While waiting to find out what happens on October 24 at the auction, today the most expensive shoes in history are those used by Kayne West at the 2008 Grammy Awards . The ‘Nike Yeezy 1’ reached a price of 1.8 million dollars in the bidding. This model was designed by Kanye West and Mark Smith, Creative Director.
