An antidepressant drug is able to increase libido in women who have low sexual desire. This is the first time that female sex therapy acts at the brain level, as explained by John Thorp, professor of obstetrics and gynecology at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine (USA) and head of the research .
The four clinical trials of Flibanserin , carried out in the United States, Canada and Europe, reveal that the most effective way to combat the lack of sexual desire in women is to administer a daily dose of 100 milligrams . Treatment increases the number of satisfying sexual encounters and libido, as well as reducing the stress associated with female sexual dysfunction.
"It is much more difficult to measure a response in women. In men, the reaction to viagra is observed with an erection, but in women the more complicated effect, a kind of psychological, emotional and social impact," explains Thorp, who has presented the results of his work during the conference of the European Society for Sexual Medicine held in Lyon, France.
The accidental finding of the drug's effects is similar to that of Viagra, which was originally designed as a heart drug but failed to achieve its goal.
