The corona situation in Germany is worsening dramatically: For the first time since the beginning of the pandemic, the RKI was now notified of more than 60,000 new infections within one day.
Berlin – The number of new corona infections has risen sharply and exceeded 60,000 for the first time in the corona pandemic.
The health authorities in Germany reported the Robert Koch Institute the maximum value of 65,371 new corona infections within one day. Exactly one week ago, more than 50,000 new infections per day were counted for the first time.
The number of new infections registered fluctuates greatly over the course of the week. The RKI gave the 7-day incidence at 336.9 – also a high. For comparison: the previous day the value was 319.5, a week ago it was 249.1 (previous month: 74.4). This is evident from the numbers that reflect the status of the RKI dashboard at 3:53 a.m.
264 deaths in 24 hours
According to the new information, 264 deaths were recorded across Germany within 24 hours. A week ago there were 235 deaths. The RKI has counted 5,195,321 detected infections with Sars-CoV-2 since the beginning of the pandemic. The actual total number is likely to be significantly higher, as many infections are not recognized.
The number of corona patients admitted to clinics per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days – the most important parameter for a possible tightening of the corona restrictions – was given by the RKI on Wednesday at 5.15 (Tuesday: 4.86). With the indicator it must be taken into account that hospital admissions are sometimes reported with delay. A nationwide threshold, from when the situation can be viewed critically, is not provided for the incidence of hospitalization, among other things because of large regional differences. The previous high was around 15.5 around Christmas time.
The RKI stated the number of those who had recovered at 4,564,200. The number of people who died with or with a proven infection with Sars-CoV-2 rose to 98,538. dpa
