Built under Ford’s new global C2 architecture, the new Kuga – which reduces its weight by 80 kg – is available in a full range of powertrains, including diesel, gasoline, full hybrid and light hybrid variants . However, the model that represents the culminating point of the transition towards the electrification of the range is the Plug-in Hybrid. Having been able to drive the Plug-In Hybrid variant of the American SUV ( made in Spain , by the way), we were surprised by its efficiency, its refinement and its sophistication.
It is equipped with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder Atkinson cycle petrol block that produces 225 hp of power. The lithium-ion battery is 14.4 kWh , giving it a totally emission-free driving range of 56 km. Thanks to this, it manages to reduce average consumption records to 1.4 l / 100 km (in the WLTP cycle) and CO2 emissions to only 32 g / km , also according to the WLTP regulations. From an external 230 volt power source recharging your battery takes less than 6 hours .
Other important improvements of the Kuga 2020 that stand out in the Plug-In version are the new connectivity functionalities through the FordPass application and the integrated FordPass Connect modem as standard. Like the rest of electrified engines, the Kuga PHEV is also equipped with a wireless charger for the mobile. It also has Ford’s latest generation SYNC 3 infotainment system, with an 8 “central touch screen that, as we have seen, facilitates the management and control of the car’s main parameters. The B&O Premium system complements the audio experience with high quality sound.
On the other hand, the security section has also been greatly improved in the K uga PHEV with advanced assistive technologies . These include, for example, a Lane Keeping System with Blind Spot Assist, Pre-Collision Assist with Pedestrian and Cyclist Detection technology, and Active Braking System. Finally, the Head-up Display makes it easy for the driver to keep his eyes on the road, while the Active Park Assist 2 allows fully automated parking maneuvers at the push of a button.
