Former Formula 1 racing driver Johnny Dumfries, once a teammate of the young Ayrton Senna at Lotus, died at the age of 62 after a brief, serious illness. This was announced by the Scottish family.
In 1986 Dumfries had contested 15 races alongside Senna in the striking black Lotus 98T and achieved fifth place in Hungary as the best result.
Dumfries celebrated his greatest successes away from the premier class. In 1984 he became British Formula 3 champion, the highlight of his career was winning the Le Mans 24 Hours with the British Jaguar team in 1988.
