Max Verstappen regains the lead in the Formula 1 World Championship after his second place at the Turkish GP . The Dutchman now leads a Lewis Hamilton by 6 points, who started eleventh, after having changed engines, and finished fifth in Istanbul. The victory went to Valtteri Bottas , his partner at Mercedes; while Sergio Pérez , Verstappen’s Red Bull teammate, took the podium as third.
Carlos Sainz was chosen as driver of the day, who starred in an even more spectacular comeback than that of Hamilton. Although the Madrilenian climbed ten positions in the 2020 Turkish GP, in this edition there have been eleven positions that he has won. Carlos Sainz started nineteenth and finished eighth in Istanbul.
Fernando Alonso , meanwhile, started fifth in Turkey, his best position since the 2014 Japanese GP. Unfortunately for him, he was rammed by Pierre Gasly at the start, relegating him to the rear of the grid. The Frenchman was suspended with five seconds and Fernando Alonso could only be sixteenth.
As far as the classification of the Constructors’ World Cup is concerned. Mercedes remains in the lead with a 36-point lead over Red Bull . Ferrari , for its part, cuts distance on McLaren . Those from Maranello are now 7.5 points behind the British team, which maintains third position in the Constructors’ World Championship standings.
