Formula 1 – Toto Wolff on Mick Schumacher: "You have to give him time"

Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff (49) sees Formula 1 newcomer Mick Schumacher on the right track. “He made a decent debut in the test drives. But you have to give him time to develop,” said the Austrian from the world championship team in Bild am Sonntag .

“This season will be an apprenticeship year for him. We should just let him drive first,” said Wolff. Schumacher, who will turn 22 on Monday, will celebrate his Grand Prix debut in Bahrain on March 28th for the Haas racing team, which is expected at the end of the field.

Wolff also stated that the contract negotiations with seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton “were not as difficult as has been speculated in some places. We actually had a deal within a few weeks, which was then handed over to the lawyers to work out.” The negotiations on this had already started shortly before Christmas and were concluded in mid-January. Hamilton signed a contract until the end of the season later than initially announced.
