Four out of ten parents can only spend between one and two weeks on vacation with their children, and the beach is the preferred destination

According to a recent study carried out by the digital content company Lingokids, summer school holidays are a source of stress for many families, who have to juggle work and children’s holidays.

And it is that most parents cannot take the same vacation days as schools to enjoy with their children. In fact, according to the aforementioned survey, four out of ten parents can only enjoy between one and two weeks of vacation during the summer to be with the family.

We have broken down the Lingokids survey on the vacation habits of Spanish families: How long do parents’ vacations last and what are the preferred destinations?

40% of parents only have between one and two weeks of summer vacation to spend with their children

In Spain, the summer school holidays last approximately 11 weeks, being one of the European countries with the longest summer vacation period.

This leads parents to the difficult situation of having to reconcile their professional life with the children’s vacations, having to resort to options such as camps, grandparents or babysitters who take care of their children while they work.

Not all parents are lucky enough to have 11 weeks of vacation to spend with their children.

In fact, according to the survey carried out by Lingokids among 600 families with children under 10 years old, only 11% of parents enjoy vacations throughout the summer .

To this small percentage of lucky people is added 24% of fathers and mothers who can spend a full month of vacation with their children ; August is generally the preferred month.

However, for the majority of parents (40%), it is only possible to enjoy between one and two weeks of vacation throughout the summer.

The beach, the favorite destination of Spanish families

As for the destinations preferred by families to spend their holidays, half of those surveyed opted for sun and beach stays. In this sense, our country is especially fortunate, as it has wonderful beaches to enjoy with children (729 of them are Blue Flag beaches).

Enjoying and playing on the beach has great benefits for children:

  • The sand especially activates their sense of touch, encourages creativity, fine motor skills and motor development.
  • In most cases, the sea water improves the skin with dermatitis and the sea breeze helps fight catarrhal symptoms with cough and mucus.

The town is the second most chosen destination , in this case by 19% of families. Parking in the big city to spend a few days off in the village also has important advantages:

  • The pace of life in the rural world is more relaxed than in the city, and children have more freedom.
  • Children are in contact with nature, enjoy outdoor games and can freely experiment and learn.

Mountain or sierra destinations are preferred by 12% of families. Our country also has impressive natural landscapes and mountains where you can enjoy a vacation without rushing or clocks, in which the only thing that matters is the perfect communion with nature.

8% of families choose to spend their holidays abroad . Thus, destinations such as the Caribbean, Europe, amazing theme parks or our neighbor Portugal are usually among the preferences of Spanish parents.

But not all families can enjoy a few days of vacation away from home. Not in vain, according to the Lingokids survey, up to 11% of families spend the entire summer in their usual home , playing games at home or leisure plans in the city or its surroundings.

Be that as it may, what is clear is that the greatest gift for any parent is to be able to spend quality time with their children this summer , share games, enjoy and learn; Regardless of the vacation destination.

Positive Discipline is an educational model that is gaining more and more popularity among families who want to educate their children in a respectful way, without yelling or punishment. There are hundreds of articles on positive parenting that we can find on the Internet and social networks, and some include tips and tools to apply it in our day to day.

There are children who are very sociable and who talk to everyone. Others who do not fear anything, or who are more innocent... which can also lead them to talk to anyone who approaches them.

The FOMO effect (Fear Of Missing Out) is defined as "the fear of missing something". And although it is a concept that has become relevant in recent years, it is nothing new. In the late 1990s, Dr. Dan Herman coined this term.

We live surrounded by technology and it is inevitable that this will be incorporated as one more tool in parenting. In addition to apps that help with things ranging from designing your baby's room to managing the calendar of children with separated parents, devices such as tablets, mobile phones or smart speakers are here to stay. Proof of this is the growing use of Alexa as a timer that children obey without question (or at least without protesting as much as their mother).

When they enter the stage of adolescence, there are many boys and girls who can become dramatic in situations that, for parents, do not have the same degree of importance. Thus, in day-to-day situations, they feel that the world is ending, or they live everything with great intensity.
