From Jalisco to the world: the electronics industry represents 12,232 million dollars in this state alone

Guadalajara Jalisco. The Mexican Silicon Valley is home to companies or innovation centers of global companies such as Intel or IBM, but one of the pioneer companies to arrive in Jalisco has been HP, a company that is celebrating 40 years of presence in the country.

The company currently provides technical support for all of the Americas, including Canada, the United States and Latin America, in addition to being a hub for quality technology and the supply chain for the north of the continent and the entire region. But, it didn’t start that way. When the brand arrived, its focus was centered on the production and manufacture of electronics and now it is transitioning to being a center of innovation.

“The electronics industry represents 12,232 million dollars, which means just over 50% of the exports that we generate as an entity,” said the governor of Jalisco, Enrique Alfaro, during the celebration of the technology.

Alfaro indicated that other products, such as Tequila, generate an income of 2,520 million dollars in the state, so the focus they seek to have with the technology companies that are in the state is to migrate from being manufacturing spaces to spaces of innovation and talent training.

“Only in the first half of 2022, in terms of foreign direct investment, we had 1,318 million dollars in investment. This represents double what we had in the first quarter of 2021 and, this year, we are the entity with the second largest foreign investment in all of Mexico,” Alfaro pointed out.

For his part, Pablo Lemus, municipal president of Guadalajara, celebrated the presence of the company in the state, with whom they have worked for several six-year terms. “HP helped put the name of Guadalajara in the world. It put us on the map not only as a city name, but also the quality of the workmanship of our people became known, thanks to this trust, many other companies decided to be in the city to be what is now known as the Mexican Silicon Valley”.

According to the index of the Mexican Institute for Competitiveness (IMCO), Jalisco is the most outstanding state in the generation of state-of-the-art technology in the country in 2022.

HP chose Jalisco to portray its history

Originally, Hewlett Packard was founded in 1939 by William Hewlett and David Packard, colleagues at Stanford University, in a garage they developed a first audio oscillator, the company chose Palo, Alto California as its headquarters, but little by little it began to expand all over the world.

It arrived in Mexico in 1982, when it was still a company focused on the manufacture of calculators. But in 2015, he decided to separate the businesses that became Hewlett Packard Enterprise, focused on technology solutions for companies, and HP Inc, dedicated to printers and personal computers.

According to Flor López, director of HP in Guadalajara, the challenges ahead for the company are to remain a center of innovation that manages to export patents and more technology to the whole world.
