The time has finally come to enjoy and laugh a little more thanks to the Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards that in 2019 reach their fifth call and that, year after year, continue to delight everyone with the stellar quality of their participants, both in a technical as well as a comic sense.
This photo contest is a free online global showcase of funny images of the most incredible wildlife on our planet. Its aim is to highlight the importance of wildlife conservation, working with its partner, the Born Free Foundation or Nacidos Libres Foundation, a UK-based body dedicated to conservation and animal rights that focuses on wild animals (also part of the International Tiger Coalition).
Behind the laughter of the images that we are going to see below is a serious message from the founders of the awards, Paul Joynson-Hicks and Tom Sullam. “Remember, it’s all about conservation,” they write on their website. “We want you to take our wildlife conservation flag, bang the drums, bang the saucer and make some noise, we need to spread the word: wildlife, as we know it, is in danger, all over the world and we need to do something to help save her. Designed to raise awareness of the natural world and founded by professional photographers and passionate conservationists, the Comedy Wildlife Photo Contest is global and free to enter. The award? A trip to one of the best safaris in the world, Alex Walker’s Serian in Maassai Mara, Kenya.
In 2018, Mary McGowan’s photograph titled ‘Caught in the act’, which shows a surprised squirrel, won the award for best photo from the 2018 Comedy Wildlife.
With the level of competition at an all-time high this year, the judges have faced an almost impossible task of narrowing down all submitted photos to just 40 finalists.
