Granada to Toledo How to get from Granada to Toledo by bus or train

ALSA has finally closed a horrendous gap in its schedule, with a (limited) bus route between Toledo and Granada.

Currently, the service runs from:

  • Granada to Toledo twice a day only on Fridays
  • Toledo to Granada twice a day only on Sundays

This is subject to change. Confirm and reserve tickets on the ALSA website .

If you need to travel on a different day, or if this service goes down, read on for the other, more uncomfortable ways to get between Granada and Toledo.

Indirect transport between Granada and Toledo

Use these services if the old ALSA route is no longer running.

Unless you are renting a car , you have two options:

  • Via Ciudad Real
  • Via Madrid

Granada to Toledo via Ciudad Real

At the time of writing, there are few buses serving this route. Check bus websites before making your travel plans Transport from Granada to Toledo by City is more direct than going through Madrid. However, there is little to do in Ciudad Real, so you will only be using the city for transfer purposes. At the time of writing (April 2012), the best connection was the following:

  • Granada to Ciudad Real by ALSA bus , leaving Granada at 11 am and arriving in Ciudad Real at 3 pm Travel time: four hours. Price: € 14.
  • Ciudad Real to Toledo by bus from Aisa (note, this is Aisa with an ‘i’, a different company than ALSA with an ‘l’). There is a bus at 4.15pm that arrives in Toledo at 5.15pm (Monday to Friday only; the bus leaves 30 minutes earlier on Saturdays). Travel time: one hour. Price: approximately € 10. The website bus numbers are incorrect. I spoke to your operator and the bus number is 82.
  • Total time: five hours of travel plus an hour and a quarter of transfer time. Price: approximately 25 euros.

The opposite is also possible: take the bus from Toledo to Ciudad Real at 7.15 am (arriving at 8.45 am) or at 9.30 am (arriving at 11.25 am), only from Monday to Friday. The bus from Ciudad Real to Granada leaves at 1:30 p.m. and arrives at 5:30 p.m.

Granada to Toledo via Madrid

Traveling from Granada to Toledo via Madrid is frustrating because you have to pass Toledo to get to Madrid before returning alone, but Madrid is a more interesting place than Ciudad Real. Consider staying in Madrid for a few days before going to Toledo.

  • Granada to Madrid by bus takes five hours and costs 17 euros (the train is only half an hour faster and costs more than triple that of the bus). There are buses throughout the day. Book the bus from Movelia .
  • Madrid to Toledo by train takes 30 minutes and costs 10 euros, but requires a transfer from Madrid’s Méndez Álvaro bus station to Madrid’s Atocha train station. Book the train from Rail Europe .
  • Total time: five and a half hours, plus transfer between the bus and train stations in Madrid. Price: € 27.
