I did not want to end my journey through the Mobile World Congress (MWC19) this year without paying my particular tribute to the secondary actors of the fair. They do not usually take the lead, this year shared by technology and 5G Smartphone, and by flexible and folding screens, but they stand out for being innovative and original.
For example, some surprising applications of graphene will soon be commercial. Some of them already are. Yes, that graphene that takes, some say, to reach products to change their appearance and functionalities. If other years we could see flexible screens in the area specifically reserved for graphene, this has become a reality just a few years later, as we have well seen.
But at MWC19 we have seen how this material is already used to make sensors that sooner rather than later will carry everything that we put on our body; or to integrate them into headphones, replacing their traditional membrane with a graphene one , a product that by the way is already commercial with a cost of around 100 euros; or to make board games with ink from this material, such as the one developed by the University of Cambridge and that could be seen in Hall 8 of the Fair; another example, to make brain implants developed with graphene , something much more critical and, they say, effective.
Social robots, for the home, for companies, for hotels, for future factories with 5G connectivity, or to play some musical instruments have also been protagonists. In this gallery we leave you some images of them. Like the ones we could see at the Taiwan Excellence stand and that make it possible to manage the reception in companies, hotels or even hospitals. He also showed some like Kebbi or Robelf, who help around the house with the children’s education tasks or the care of the elderly. Thus, N.ERA Robotic presented robots equipped with artificial intelligence solutions in which, among their characteristics, facial and object recognition, voice interaction, was not lacking.
We saw, of course, more innovative flexible displays in some garments that men and women wear almost daily, such as bags and hats. Royole, a Chinese firm that surprised us in this area, showed us some innovations in this regard, and even a landline phone with a transparent curved touch screen.
We were also able to admire a smart house for cats that cleans itself, LavvieBot, controlled from an app on a Smartphone, and that integrates different sensors to inform us of the health status of our pet, since it shows us the status of its vital signs. In addition, it cleans up the waste that the cat has made in its smart home.
Finally, we were struck by a small device manufactured by a Dutch company that is capable of recognizing up to 150 languages in language and that we can carry in our pockets on our trips to get us out of more than one trouble.
Surely we leave more secondary actors, who could take a little prominence, but in an event as big as MWC19 it is impossible to see and touch everything.
