Grupo Modelo invests 3,000 million pesos in its glass bottle plant in Veracruz

Grupo Modelo, owner of Corona beer, announced an investment of 3,000 million pesos to expand its glass bottle production plant in Tierra Blanca, Veracruz.

Cassiano De Stefano, president of Grupo Modelo, announced that with this investment one of its furnaces will be modernized, a new one will be installed and three lines will be added to increase the plant’s production from 3.5 million bottles per day to 5.5 million.

“Today, when the priority is to reactivate the economy of Mexico, to continue promoting development in the southeast of the country fills me with pride to announce this investment in Veracruz, a place that has received us with open arms since May 2006,” said De Stefano.

With this expansion in the window, the beer group will send the bottles as support to other markets, including those of Ecuador, Colombia and Peru. “The need for glass has grown now and it will exist in the future,” said Cassiano de Stefano.

The plant in Veracruz employs more than 570 people and this expansion will add 200 direct and 1,600 indirect jobs. Now, it has an annual production of 900 million bottles per year.

Last year, Mexico produced 118.7 million hectoliters of beer, a decrease of 4.7% compared to the previous year, which meant the first drop in production for the national industry in the last 12 years.

Veracruz wants investment from Constellations Brands

After a popular consultation among the citizens of Baja California, the federal government canceled the construction of a Constellation Brands plant in Mexicali, in March of last year. The company is in talks to relocate its facilities.

In this regard, the governor of Veracruz declared that his government seeks to integrate the company, which operates the Grupo Modelo brands in the United States, to the Isthmus of Tehuantepec scheme.

“For the government, the economic reactivation that generates jobs is of great interest. We can offer other circumstances; Regarding water, Veracruz has more than 30% of the water resource, we have enough water in the south. It is the offer we have because we know that he has a plan to generate 2,000 jobs, “said Cuitláhuac García, governor of the state.

“Veracruz has water and we have the satisfaction of being able to be using a natural resource, and on the other hand, we have the Gulf, which allows us to go out and conquer different export markets and is connected with different parts of Mexico,” added Tatiana Clouthier, head of the Ministry of Economy.
