Cellular aging caused by the passage of time is the cause of the neurodegenerative and cardiovascular diseases most feared by the population. The study carried out by a team of Italian doctors affirms that cancer and Alzheimer's are two symptoms of old age that do not usually develop simultaneously in the same person due to their incompatibility.
As previous research has shown, both diseases are two manifestations of this natural deterioration of the organism that consists of the loss of the cellular repair capacity. Cancer consists of the uncontrolled proliferation of cells and Alzheimer's consists of their programmed death. What was not known until now is that, after the age of 60, suffering from one of them reduces the chances of suffering from the other by 35 percent , which is a consolation for 15 percent of the world's population.
The study consisted of a five-year follow-up of the medical history and prescribed medications of nearly 200,000 adults over 60 years of age. Only 161 people in that sample had symptoms of both disorders. These results give rise to future research on the mechanisms that connect both diseases and if their development is inversely associated.
Aging is a congenital stage in human life that we all have to face and whose only form of treatment is to undergo early detection tests to minimize and delay the appearance of its symptoms.
