Mostly because the “director’s cut” stamp was weird when Hideo Kojima himself was the director and manager of Kojima Productions during the development of the original Death Stranding.
However, it seems that this nickname that has been chosen has not been his decision. This is how he wanted to acknowledge it himself through his own account on Twitter, where he has shown his rejection, ensuring that he does not like having to call this new edition that way .
A Director’s Cut, in a movie, is an additional montage of a shorter version that was reluctantly released because the director had no right to edit it or because the duration had to be shortened.

By his words he implies that the decision of the name Death Stranding: Director’s Cut has turned out to be totally alien to him , so it is likely that Sony had the last word when choosing this title, as will also happen with Ghost of Tsushima : Director’s Cut when it arrives next month, exactly August 20.
