A former nurse is said to have killed four residents of a Potsdam dormitory for the disabled. The prosecutor speaks of “deeply evil” acts. The verdict is due next week.
Potsdam – Because of the killing of four defenseless residents of a Potsdam dormitory for the disabled, the public prosecutor has demanded a prison sentence of 15 years for the defendant.
The former nurse was guilty of four murders and multiple attempted murders, said prosecutor Maria Stiller in her plea on Friday. She also called for the 52-year-olds to be placed in a psychiatric clinic and a lifelong ban on their profession. The judgment of the 1st criminal chamber of the Potsdam Regional Court is to be pronounced on Wednesday.
The defendant is said to have killed four defenseless residents in the dormitory of the diaconal institution Oberlinhaus between the ages of 31 and 56 with a knife in their rooms at the end of April. Previously, the nurse is said to have tried in vain to strangle two of the victims.
Decreased guilty capacity
The actions of the nursing staff were “deeply evil,” said Stiller in her plea. The targeted action of the accused speaks against a suspension of the control of the accused at the time of the offense. The forensic psychiatrist Cornelia Mikolaiczyk recognized a significantly reduced culpability due to a personality disorder. Therefore, a life sentence for murder should be avoided.
On the other hand, defense attorney Henry Timm asked the court to recognize the culpability of his client. After traumatic experiences in childhood with a violent and hostile mother, the 52-year-old was ruled by an “inner monster”, which ultimately led to a fatal outbreak of violence. Therefore, the placement of his client in a psychiatric clinic is advisable. The defense lawyer did not submit a specific criminal complaint.
The 52-year-old defendant commented on the offenses for the first time in her closing remarks at the trial and asked the relatives to apologize. “When I went to work, I didn’t think I was going to lose control,” she said. “Even if I don’t cry or break down here, I still can’t believe what I’ve done.” Her husband, her house and her children are gone, she complained: “I’m very sorry. “Dpa
