The largest swimming pool in the world, according to Guinness Records, is located in the tourist resort San Alfonso del Mar, in Algarrobo (Chile), about 90 kilometers from the capital.
The pool is 1013 meters long and 3 meters deep. It occupies about 8 hectares, which is equivalent to 6,000 8-meter long family pools. This artificial lagoon contains 250 million liters of water that has the transparency and intense turquoise color of tropical seas. It is taken directly from the ocean and stays warmer than sea water, at about 26 degrees.
It took 5 years to build it and about 3.5 million dollars were invested.
