Regarding the variables by which some people exercise and others do not, free time and age do not influence. According to the OCU, the most important variables are tobacco consumption and the economic situation. Specifically, those who smoke more than 15 cigarettes a day practice less sport. And 53% of those who exercise more than 150 minutes a week say they are in a good or very good financial situation.
Regarding the differences by Autonomous Communities, the survey reveals that they are very significant. Andalusia leads the way with 56% of the population spending more than 60 minutes a week exercising. They are followed by Castilla y León (45%) and Galicia (43%). In the last places are Murcia (24%) and Canarias (11%).
The OCU survey also reflects that men and women prefer different sports activities. Men prefer cycling, jogging, swimming, soccer, and futsal. Jogging tops the women’s list, followed by fitness, cycling, ballroom dancing, yoga and Pilates.
On the other hand, half of those surveyed acknowledge that they have at least one sports center, an indoor swimming pool, a soccer field or a basketball court within 15 minutes of their home. 46% of those surveyed enjoy a public gym close to home and 70% affirm that they can go to a park or open area to practice sports.
