How often do you have to stop to rest if you drive this summer 2021?

We are facing a summer 2021 where there will be many car trips during the summer season. Last year, due to the spread of the pandemic , displacements were more limited and leaving Spain was difficult for many.

With the more widespread vaccination in much of Europe, road trips will be much more frequent in the coming months, and the kilometers will gradually accumulate.

Faced with this wave of trips that the General Directorate of Traffic has already planned, it is best to follow the advice that the DGT itself points out in its publications and on its website so that our trip does not turn into a nightmare.

Do we have fatigue?

When we spend many hours at the wheel, it is normal to feel fatigue and tiredness after a few hours. If we feel itchy eyes, we cannot stop moving and it is difficult for us to focus our eyes while driving, it is best to stop to make a stop and stretch our legs for a while.

According to the DGT, this summer 2021 when we drive for many kilometers, it is advisable to stop every 200 kilometers or two hours of continuous driving. These stops have to be approximately 10 minutes, and we can help them with a drink that helps us wake up our fatigue.

What should we avoid?

Obviously, to drive for long hours or for many kilometers , you have to do it in the best possible conditions. It does not help to drive after a copious meal, as fatigue will be more pronounced and we will not have our reflexes fully on driving.

Likewise, drugs that cause drowsiness are also not recommended to start a long drive since they will affect our attention on the road.

The DGT itself has also started a campaign this summer 2021 to raise awareness about the use of alcohol and drugs behind the wheel. As we all know it is forbidden to drive under the influence of drugs or alcohol, especially when there is an exit of many kilometers where we need to be rested and with all our faculties at one hundred percent.
