If we use both our personal name and the photos of our Google account for the channel that we create on YouTube at any given time, it is true that, at any time, it is perfectly possible to update this information.
But we must take into account something fundamental: until a few years ago, the YouTube account was completely independent from the one, for example, we used in Gmail or in any other service offered by Google.
However, some time ago Google decided to unify all the accounts into one , so that the name of our Google account will always be the same as that of our associated YouTube account , including also the name of our channel (unless we have created more than one channel).
In other words, the name of our Google account is the name of our YouTube channel . However, when we want to change the YouTube channel name to something different, but still want to keep the Google account name, we must do something first: move the channel to a brand account .
Changing our Google / YouTube name
First of all, you need to access our YouTube settings . To do this, we log into our account and then touch the icon of our user account located at the top right of the screen. Next, we touch Settings in the drop-down menu.
We now access the edit fields for both our name and our surname. To modify it, click next to the Edit in Google link, which will be displayed next to our name.
Now, in the About me tab, which will appear in Google, we enter our new name and / or surname in the fields indicated for it, and click OK when we are done.
Create a brand account (ideal when you just want to change the channel name)
If instead of changing your name what you basically want is to modify the name of the channel , so that it does not continue to be called the same as the Google account, it is necessary to create a brand account , which can be created for our company or for a brand in concrete. In this way, we can generate a brand account when creating a YouTube channel.
To do this, we must log into the account and click on the icon of our user account. Next, click on Settings and then on See all my channels or create a new channel .
Now we simply click on Create a new channel , we enter the name we want our new channel to have and click on Create . We will automatically be redirected to the channel page that we have recently created, which we can now proceed to replace with our existing channel.
Moving our channel to the newly created brand account
Now, finally, we come to the step that interests us the most: modifying the name of our channel . To do this, we must return to our original account, by clicking on the user account icon , touching Change account and then clicking on our account (effectively, the one we want to change the name of).
We click again on the user account icon and then on Settings . Next, we click on Advanced settings that we will find just below our name, and then on Move channel to brand account . Now we simply log back into the account to verify the change.
We click on the Select the desired account button, click on the brand channel that we have recently created (and which may be empty), and the system will notify us that the brand account already has its own YouTube channel.
Don’t panic, this is an absolutely normal warning. We just have to continue and click on Delete channel and then click on Move channel . In this way, we will end up moving our original channel to the new brand account.
