How to connect two computers to share the internet on Windows or macOS

In many situations we can connect all our devices to the same Wi-Fi network, in such a way that having an internet connection does not become a problem. But when this is not possible, there is no Wi-Fi connection or access is restricted, it could end up becoming a problem. Especially when we need to check our email, or work with the computer that does not have access to the network.

The simplest solution is to share the internet between computers , something that is extremely easy to do, both from Windows and from macOS. Although we have two options: the Ethernet connection or the Wi-Fi connection. The first option (Ethernet), for example, is tremendously useful when we have a device that has Wi-Fi, helping another that does not.

How to share Internet from Windows using Ethernet

We will start by connecting both computers with an Ethernet cable , which will be essential to connect the two computers to each other. If you are using a Mac, you need an Ethernet to USB-C adapter to connect to the Thunderbolt 3 port, especially before you can connect the Ethernet cable to the Mac.

Then we must access the Windows Start Menu , and open the Control Panel . Once here, you need to click on Network and Internet , and then on Network and Sharing Center .

Now we must click on Change adapter settings , and select both connections, both the Ethernet connection and the Wi-Fi connection. Once this is done, we must click with the right mouse button on the Wi-Fi connection icon, a drop-down menu will appear where we will now have to click on Bridge Connections .

From then on, the computer’s Wi-Fi connectivity will be shared in a “bridged” connection with the other computer.

How to share the Internet from a Mac

We must start by connecting the two Macs with an Ethernet cable . Of course, remember that, if both devices are Mac, two Ethernet to USB-C adapters are necessary, to be able to connect them to the Thunderbolt 3 ports of our Mac.

Then we must access the Apple menu , and click on System Preferences . Once we are in the new window, it is necessary to click on Share , and check the Internet Sharing box.

In the new window it is necessary to click on Share your connection from , and a drop-down menu will appear where we can choose the Ethernet box.

As we can see, the procedure in both Windows and macOS is really simple, so even if we have internet connectivity only on one computer, it is perfectly possible to extend that connection by sharing it to any other device.
