How to customize the Apple CarPlay screen

Having an iPhone and a compatible vehicle offers you the possibility of being able to use the mobile phone inside the car without having to touch the device itself, since using the CarPlay functionality it is like having the iOS operating system on the touch screen of the same.

This is because Apple CarPlay , as we have already explained to you from time to time, becomes the solution provided by the company to be able to use some apps, directions, messages, calls and music from the iPhone directly on the dashboard of the car .

Of course, to be able to use it, two things are necessary: that our iPhone is compatible with CarPlay (which means that it must be at least an iPhone 5 or later with iOS 7.1), and that our vehicle is relatively new, since, in the Most of the times, many of the new cars on sale today in dealerships have the necessary compatibility to be able to use this system (or Android Auto) in it.

Unlike the iPhone, especially after the arrival of iOS 14 (which, among other interesting aspects, offers the possibility of adding widgets), at the moment it is true that Apple does not provide many options when it comes to customizing the CarPlay screen .

However, this does not prevent us from reorganizing it at least easily to distribute the different icons of the apps to our liking, being able to move, for example, those that we use most frequently to the first screen (or page), and those that we use with less often to the back.

Customizing our Apple CarPlay screen

We start by starting the Settings application of our iPhone, which we will find as always on the device’s home screen. Then, we touch General and then we press CarPlay .

In the section My car we touch the button relative to our car. Right at the top of the Car page we must click on Customize .

Now a new page will be displayed with a series of applications. The established order is the order in which they appear on the screen, so we would only have to touch and drag applications up or down in said list with the help of the bars that we find located on the right side.

In this way, we will put in the first places the icons of those apps that we like or interest the most, basically because they tend to be the ones we use the most.

What to do when you don’t want an app icon to show up in CarPlay?

In case you simply do not want a certain application to appear in CarPlay, you can touch the red circle that you will find to the left of each icon and then select the Delete option.

Of course, you must bear in mind that this will not delete the application on the iPhone, it will only make it not appear on the CarPlay screen. Again, if you want to recover it again, you just have to go to the More applications section, which you will find at the bottom of this page.
