In Spain, the normal thing is that we access any web page without any type of restriction. However, if we travel to certain countries it is possible that we will find blockages, either because they violate some regulations or directly because there is no information freedom in that nation. We can also find restrictions in some workplaces or in educational centers. In this article we explain the different ways that exist to access blocked websites.
Through the VPN
A VPN (Virtual Proxy Network) is a network technology used to connect a computer to a private network using the internet. When you connect through a VPN all data is sent through a virtual encrypted tunnel. This allows us to access blocked websites from our network by placing the IP of a computer that is located anywhere in the world.
Currently, there are free or low-cost VPN services that can be used to freely surf the web. In addition, it is a good option if we want to protect privacy and security on the internet.
Use the mobile version
Some websites, such as Facebook or YouTube, allow access through mobile devices by writing an ‘m’ between the ‘www’. Many blocking services don’t take mobile versions of blocked sites into account.
Looking for the IP instead of the address
If you can find the IP of the place you want to access (that is, its raw numeric address) you could go to the website. However, this does not work on all pages as some hide their IP address or use multiple addresses that are unreliable.
To do this, you will have to open the command window (CMD) on your computer. Then, you must write the word ‘ping’ next to the name of the website and press ‘enter’. This will give you the IP address that you must put in the search bar of the browser.
Through the Proxy
In the work environment, it is normal for access to some web pages to be limited, as is the case with social networks. A good option to try to unblock them is the Proxy.
Proxy web pages act as intermediaries between the user and the server, easily unblocking the content of the page and hiding our real IP address. On the Internet we can find many free web proxies.
Using Google Translate
Although it is not always effective, it could serve as an alternative to the Proxy. You will first have to open Google Translate on your computer. Then, you will have to write the web address in the box on the left and select a language other than the original of the page for the box on the right.
Next, click on ‘go to website’ on the left side of the page and click on the ‘translate’ option if you deem it necessary.
