Hurricane wave smashes windows of a ferry – video shows shock moment in Hamburg

In Hamburg, water transport is part of everyday life. However, a certain line was apparently damaged by the hurricane “Ylenia” – while driving.

Hamburg – The storm “Ylenia” claimed the first death in Germany. A man in Lower Saxony was fatally injured by a falling tree, another man in Bavaria suffered serious injuries.

The property damage caused by the storm is also high, even if it cannot be definitively quantified at the moment. A video is circulating on Twitter this Thursday (February 17) showing the forces of nature breaking through the window of a ferry. Cries of fear from the passengers can be heard:

According to Hamburger Abendblatt , the video is about the Finkenwerder ferry. As hamburg24.de writes, the ferry was traveling between the “Teufelsbrück” and “Airbus” piers. According to initial information, there were no injuries, writes the portal.*

Hurricane chaos in Germany: “Zeynep” expected on Friday night

And even when the low* “Ylenia” is gone, the hurricane low “Zeynep” threatens another stormy night. Especially on the coasts it should be rough from Friday to Saturday, according to the German Weather Service (DWD) in Hamburg to the dpa: “We warn of extreme hurricane gusts of up to 135 kilometers per hour on the North Sea coast.”

Extreme hurricane gusts with wind speeds of up to 135 kilometers per hour are therefore also expected on the Baltic Sea coast on Friday evening. In the other regions of the north, hurricane-like gusts or hurricane gusts can be expected.

The force with which the hurricane will hit northern Germany* is still not 100 percent predictable. The signals for extreme hurricane gusts are there. The DWD receives new model data every six hours. First, the hurricane moves over Denmark.

“Ylenia” moves across Germany – meteorologists classify storm

The DWD had already measured wind speeds of 125 kilometers per hour on the North Sea island of Spiekeroog on Thursday. In St. Peter-Ording it was 110 kilometers per hour, Bremen reached 112 kilometers per hour.

However, these maximum values were also very strongly linked to showers or gusts. “Ylenia” was therefore still a strong storm for the weather * in this country, which was quite usual for the time of year. (frs with dpa material) *Merkur.de and 24hamburg.de are offers from IPPEN.MEDIA

Our children's graduations mark the end of a stage and remind us how fast...

They say that in raising children the days are long and the years are short, and of course they are right. But perhaps it is especially in these days of school graduations and changes of stage, when we realize it the most.
