Asian firms conceive electrification as the challenge that will place them in the public imagination of the old continent. It is a new one, in which everyone (or almost everyone) starts with the same possibilities and from the same starting point. For this reason, brands such as Hyundai, Kia, Toyota or Mazda understand the great opportunity that the climate emergency offers them. From their design headquarters, which in many cases are in European capitals, they design vehicles to suit the buyer, with the technology, connectivity and innovation that we demand from the classic German, French or Spanish firms. Under these guidelines, cars such as the Hyundai Ioniq 5 are created , an ode to the avant-garde both for its design and for the propulsion system that drives it. We have been able to drive its most powerful version, for now, of 306 hp with up to 430 kilometers of autonomy and we will tell you our first impressions.
This Korean model, manufactured on the E-GMP platform that also supports the Kia EV6, has been in the Spanish market for just a month. In this time , 28 units have been registered , which exceeds the data of the Tesla Model S and the Mazda MX-30, which have been on sale for some time. The data seems to be in line with the expectations of the firm with this model, which comes to fight in a segment where we find the Volkswagen ID.4 , Skoda Enyaq , Cupra Born, Mustang Mach-e and even the Audi Q4 e-Tron despite its premium essence. We also find hybrid rivals to consider, such as the Opel Grandland, Citroën C5 Aircross or the Peugeot 3008 also hybrid.
The arguments of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 are obvious. During our day of driving through Valencian lands the car aroused, to say the least, a lot of curiosity. Its futuristic design, with marked, cubist and minimalist lines has been liked, there is no doubt about that. Of this new design language, the Parametric Pixel lighting firm stands out, which bets on square and interactive LED modules as if it were a fantastic car.
In terms of its propulsion system, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 will be available with two types of battery ( 58 kWh and 72.6 kWh ), and the option of having a single engine or two powertrains. That leaves us versions of 170 to 306 CV with autonomies that start from 348 kilometers to 481 kilometers of the most road option. As with the EV6, the Hyundai Ioniq has the V2L function that is capable of charging other devices . We have more in the gallery.
