I still haven't recovered from the end of Avengers: Infinity War, so I took off my jumpsuit with Thanos in Marvel Super Heroes

Everyone squeezing the ‘Fornite: Battle Royale’ for the Thanos event, except me. After hallucinating with the premiere of ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ a couple of weeks ago and having not yet recovered from its surprising ending, my only wish these days to endure the long wait until its conclusion on May 3, 2019, has been to return to control Thanos in ‘Marvel Super Heroes’ .

The Mad Titan is more fashionable than ever thanks to his full prominence in the film directed by the Russo brothers, although he had been a luxury guest in video games for some time, being in Capcom’s fighting classic one of his most stellar appearances being the fearsome main villain.

Marvel Super Heroes, the timeless classic

To recall that 1995 arcade, I opted for the compilation ‘Marvel vs. Capcom: Origins ‘, which includes both that gem and the first’ Marvel vs. Capcom ‘, where two-team matches were introduced.

If I opted for that installment and not the complete ‘Marvel vs. Capcom 2: New Age of Heroes’, it was because in ‘Marvel Super Heroes’ Thanos is immensely more powerful , since in the Capcom crossover his attacks were cut.

In the 1995 classic, when acting as the final boss, even normal attacks (strong punch and strong kick) generated specials that could fleece the opponent in a few seconds … and without having to obtain the six Infinity Stones.

These gems were, in fact, one of the novelties of this installment, since any hero or villain can control them to the point of accumulating them in the campaign until the final encounter with Thanos, seeing how he ends up robbing us vilely. It’s a mechanic that the not-so-satisfying ‘Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite ‘, where Thanos also appears.

Although Thanos is the boss of ‘Marvel Super Heroes’, we can also unlock him , although these days I am alternating between games where I kill him and others with him where I devastate the campaign, even against Doctor Doom, one of the most difficult enemies of the entire game for its specials.

The six Infinity Stones … with or without Thanos

‘Marvel Super Heroes’ is a game that continues to be fresh and where we do not miss the exchange of characters at any time. Its only drawback is the small number of its staff of heroes and villains, but beyond that, it is very enjoyable and the piques can be anthological due to the use of the Infinity Gems, since the rival can also steal them from us.

Each Gem collected (and highlighted by default) is activated in the same way, with a crescent back plus two punches. From there the effect varies between each one, lasting in all cases a few (but useful) seconds:

  • Power Gem : temporarily increases our offensive power
  • Time Gem : temporarily increases our speed
  • Soul Gem : Health recovers for a few seconds
  • Mind Gem : The special bar is temporarily increased
  • Reality Gem : we launch projectiles with normal hits
  • Space Gem : temporarily increases our defense

The striking thing is that Thanos himself does not need these Gems, ironically, to perform completely devastating final attacks. And curiously, its execution (where a full bar of special is consumed) is very simple, as it is a backward shoryuken plus any button (where each button corresponds, therefore, to a specific Gem).

In this sense, the most recurrent specials (and fearsome against him) are those of Power , with that gigantic ball of fire that runs throughout the stage; and Reality, with those gigantic walls that it invokes to crush any unwary.

Alma’s is also useful, where it fires a lightning bolt that if it hits the opponent, robs them of part of their life and transfers it to us, while Space, where it invokes a rock vortex, rarely manages to completely reach the opponent. Of course, it is striking that in ‘Marvel vs. Capcom 2 ‘two final attacks were suppressed , those corresponding to the Time Gems (to slow down the rival) and Mind (to reverse their controls), although it is not that they were missing much …

A pity that these classics were withdrawn from digital stores years ago because of the licenses. Or maybe it was all because of Thanos, surely.
