At the end of the summer, the gyms begin to receive requests from those who, thanks to the tranquility and the beach bars, have put a few extra kilos on ourselves. And it is also time for those wonderful diets that promise you to lose a handful of kilos in a short time without starving.
Of course, it is one thing to diet and another to malnourish, which is what happens with many of those miracle diets. Around the same time, we began to hear advertisements for miracle cures for our age-old obsession with not wanting to look like Rubens models. The success of these types of products is that they promise us almost immediate results and without any effort. It is the magic wand that turns pumpkins into floats and rags into evening dresses. Unfortunately, there is no magic remedy against those extra ‘pounds’: no creams, no drinks, no pill. Just balanced diet and exercise. The great nutritionist Grande Covián has already said it: “the only food that does not make you fat is the one that stays on the plate.”
But, in addition, those creams or pills seem to come out of nowhere. If you take the trouble to search the scientific literature for the research that shows which is the active principle that causes the elimination of fat, or where are the clinical studies that prove its effectiveness, you will not find anything at all.
On the other hand, do you realize what it would mean to find a safe drug capable of eliminating love handles and holsters? It would be the goose that lays the golden eggs of the pharmaceutical industry. And why talk about prices! Ultimately, and in the absence of conclusive evidence, one thing is certain: lose, you will surely lose your money; and his kilos … maybe … with the annoyance he takes when he finds that for miracles, better go to Lourdes.
