Hyundai takes another step forward in its electrification strategy with the creation of Ioniq, a new sub-brand of 100% electric and connected models. This firm opened a new chapter in its history by turning the London Eye into a giant illuminated letter Q. Ioniq’s vision is to bring the electric experience closer to the consumer, focusing on a connected lifestyle and the mantra of ‘Progress for Humanity’. Under this business philosophy, up to three models will be launched in the next four years, starting with the Ioniq 5 that will be revealed in early 2021. The Ioniq 6 and 7 will follow, each one focused on a specific segment. They will be developed on the E-GMP platform and will be accompanied by new features in the section on superchargers and in-car and out-of-car services.
Wonhong Cho, Executive Vice President and Global Marketing Director, Hyundai Motor Company explained the goal of this new sub-brand, which “With a new emphasis on connected living, it will deliver comprehensive electrified experiences for a green lifestyle.” It will do so under a name known to users. The Hyundai Ioniq is the electric, hybrid and plug-in hybrid saloon that was launched in 2016, with the option to choose between three mechanics. The company announced its intention to sell 1 million electric units and achieve 10% of the market share by 2025, data that would serve to make it the global leader in mobility 0 emissions. The creation of Ioniq is focused on reinforcing that objective, with the idea of showing itself as a provider of intelligent mobility services, beyond a manufacturer of clean automobiles.
Ioniq 5
The Ioniq range will feature three models by 2025 . The number family will be divided into even numbers for sedans and odd numbers for crossover models. The first to arrive, which will arrive in early 2021, will be the Ioniq 5 and is based on the surprising 45 EV , the concept car unveiled during the 2019 Frankfurt International Motor Show. Its design caught the attention of everyone there. present and it is not for less. Its geometric bodywork, with clean and sharp lines, combines the best of automotive tradition with cutting-edge technologies.
Its monocoque body is very reminiscent of the Hyundai Pony Coupe Concept , the first prototype manufactured by the firm in 1974. That model gave life to the production Pony and this last concept car will do so with the Ioniq 5. The number 45 alluded to the degrees that they form the corners of the futuristic vehicle, a detail that we do not see too realistic for the final model. The digital mirrors and the LED modules in its grill, which show the charge of the batteries, are elements closer to production.
Ioniq 6
The next to arrive will be the I oniq 6, one of the most anticipated . Expectations are high given that it will be based on the beautiful Hyundai Prophecy concept car. It was presented in full confinement and we will talk about it in this article. Its bodywork elevates the taste for simplicity and digitization to the highest expression, with details drawn from the design language called Senuous Sportiness .
Its front goes completely unnoticed by a film behind. The lower bumper has been replaced by a panel of progressive LED modules, with two vertical stripes that would be responsible for welcoming and informing about the movement while driving. Finally it will be the turn of the large SUV, the Ioniq 7 . It is expected in early 2024 and we do not have a prototype on which to base ourselves to talk about its possible image.
