There is a general belief that exercising as soon as you get up and on an empty stomach causes us to lose more weight. However, according to the Spanish Heart Foundation (FEC), it is a myth.
When we exercise without having ingested anything before, all the glycogen stores in the muscles and liver are burned, and as a result we have a great feeling of fatigue. In addition, fasting exercise causes an increase in cardiovascular risk factors such as inflammation and oxidation. The FEC recalls that the beneficial effect of sport is achieved when performing the activity, but rather in the responses that are elicited in the body once the exercise is over.
