August 15 is one of those days marked on the Spanish calendar. For many it is the beginning of the summer holidays coinciding with a national holiday that commemorates the Day of the Assumption of the Virgin.

Of all the Spanish autonomous communities, there are only five regions that have declared that this August 15, go to the 16th as a holiday. These communities are: Andalusia, Castilla y León, Aragon, Asturias and the Canary Islands . In the territories of these five communities, on August 16, Monday, will be a holiday throughout the day.
However, the vast majority of communities have preferred not to move the day holiday: Galicia, Cantabria, Madrid, La Rioja, Extremadura, Basque Country, Navarra, Catalonia, Valencian Community, Balearic Islands, Castilla-La Mancha, Murcia, Ceuta and Melilla .
These autonomous communities will have a normal Monday 16, without a party in their territories, so it will be a working day. This day, each autonomous community may pass it to any part of the calendar, already agreed upon in advance.
In Spain we have 14 holidays a year that are divided into 8 national holidays that affect the entire country; 4 days that the autonomous communities choose to have in the annual calendar; and the rest of the days, 2, are set by the municipalities.

On the other hand, this August 15 is one of the days where more festivities are concentrated in our country. It is estimated that there are a total of 1,184 celebrations this day 15 spread throughout Spain.
