Exists. It is a water container toad Cyclorana platycephala , an amphibian that lives far from any pond, in the middle of the Australian desert. When summer arrives, this animal undergoes a process known as estivation , equivalent to the hibernation of some animals in the cold season. Specifically, when temperatures rise, the toad buries itself in sand (up to a meter deep) and reduces its metabolic activity to a minimum, while its skin secretes mucus that hardens and allows it to retain large amounts of water without a single drop evaporating. So it can stay more than 10 months . After a heavy rain, it returns to the surface to regain food and water reserves.
The aborigines had known for a long time this extraordinary ability of toads and, when they came across one of them in the dry season , they pressed lightly on its skin to extract the water and drink it without harming the animal.
As for its digestive physiology, it has been shown that, in extreme situations , Cyclorana platycephala can go without food for no less than four years .
