"It is necessary to make the shadows visible to reach the lights", Verdeliss talks about the difficulties of her breastfeeding

We all know the benefits of breast milk, and there are many mothers who decide, from the first moment, to breastfeed our babies. There are also women who prepare during pregnancy by reading articles and books on breastfeeding.

But until you have your baby in your arms and breastfeeding begins, you do not know what it really means. At that point, theory gives way to practice and the experience may not be what you expected.

And this is what has happened to Verdeliss with her last two lactations : that of her twin daughters and that of her premature baby. But far from hiding the difficulties she has gone through, the well-known YouTuber wanted to share them with all her followers, in order to encourage other mothers who are in the same situation.

“Sometimes I think about how many towels have been thrown away due to lack of tribe”

The well-known youtuber and mother of seven children, Verdeliss, published yesterday on her Instagram account a reflection on breastfeeding that has moved us, due to the sincerity of her words and what she transmits. The text is accompanied by a photograph of her breastfeeding her last daughter, born prematurely at 31 weeks of gestation.

Breastfeeding. 🤱🏼 You get sick of listening: it doesn’t have to hurt … but oh when it hurts! Sometimes I think how many towels have been thrown away due to lack of tribe, of sharing experiences, from mother to mother. We all know the technique, the benefits of breast milk and they overwhelm us with scientific evidence (with good reason🤲🏻) But also presenting the difficulties, far from diminishing, prepares and strengthens. Women, my beginnings with my two lactations were not as expected: between pain, tears, cracks, blisters, obstructions, mastitis, insomnia and guilt … a lot of guilt! With the twins I rebelled thinking that it was not what they had told me, but the intervention of Carmen, my friend Doula and lactation consultant was stronger (and my stubbornness hehe). With Miren, I consoled myself: calm, it’s normal, calm will come, a pleasant breastfeeding will come. Believe me … if it is a desired breastfeeding (and if there is no pathology that prevents it) one day you find yourself watching your baby suckle, in a sweet, magical and mammalian fusion. And those torturous two months until breastfeeding began make sense. And you fall in love with those moments. It is necessary to make the shadows visible, to reach the lights❤️ If you are now in that vulnerable period where feeling something that is not similar to sticking thousands of pins in your nipple every time your baby hooks it turns out to seem like a “scam”, calm down .. Pleasant breastfeeding will come and it is wonderful. Courage puerpara (then come the crisis of growth, rejection or maternal agitation for a change … but that is water from another bag 😅) let yourself support, believe in yourself and your baby #Verdeliss #Motherna Lactation

The lights and shadows of breastfeeding

Like any other aspect of parenting, breastfeeding is also a personal experience , which can be very different from one mother to another: for some women, it is a good and successful experience from the first moment, while for others it is a path full of difficulties.

Although it is true that when successful breastfeeding is achieved it becomes one of the most incredible and loving experiences in a mother’s life , there is also a dark side that some women go through, and that is far removed from breastfeeding. dream that they have sold us.

That is why it is important to make visible the shadows of breastfeeding, so that mothers who are going through it do not feel alone, guilty, or suffer in silence. Sharing experiences can not only be of great help to the mother who is having difficulties, but also become the lifesaver she was waiting for.

The importance of the tribe

And in this sense, the tribe is especially important, since it is essential that the mother has an important support network that offers security and information in the face of possible doubts and setbacks that may arise.

Support must start from the delivery room, where doctors, nurses and midwives properly informed in breastfeeding reach out to the new mother, knowing how to communicate and help from the empathy that is required in these delicate and first moments between mother and baby.

Once the mother and baby are discharged, the support of the couple and a tribe of mothers that listens, understands and does not judge you is more essential than ever. And it is that being able to speak openly or fearfully, and receive advice from other moms based on experience, is undoubtedly a great help.

And if you are having difficulties with your breastfeeding , it is recommended that you go to a breastfeeding support group, where counselors or IBCLC will help you overcome obstacles and clarify all your doubts.

Breastfeeding in children older than one year: breastfeeding from 12 months is not spoiling

The first thing that caused me doubt when writing the post was the title. I have often heard the terms prolonged breastfeeding to refer to children older than 12 months who are still nursing. Or breastfeeding in older children. And yet, I get the impression that these terms refer to something that is not normal, as if breastfeeding had to have a short duration or children beyond the age of 2 years were considered too old to breastfeed.

Breast cancer during breastfeeding: a difficult diagnosis to face

Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women in Spain. So far this year, 35,000 new cases have been diagnosed in our country according to the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC), and it is estimated that one in eight women will have breast cancer at some point in her life. However, it has a high survival rate: more than 90 percent overcome it or it becomes chronic, achieving a great quality of life.

My baby is very distracted while breastfeeding: why it happens and how to get...

During the first weeks of life, breastfed babies often only want to be at their mother's breast. The shots are long (practically one with another), the baby's movements are slow and calm, and the exchange of glances between mother and child is constant.

Mixed breastfeeding in twins: how to organize to feed two babies

The WHO recommends that babies under six months be exclusively breastfed. Mothers who have twins or fraternal twins are capable of producing milk for both of them, since we know that the greater the stimulation, the greater the production of milk; women in these cases can produce... up to 2 liters of milk a day!

Does your baby "tune in" to the nipple while nursing? Why does it do...

Does your baby play and touch the nipple that is free while he is sucking on the other one? This is a behavior popularly known as "tuning" (the child moves the nipple as if tuning a radio), and although it is completely normal and natural, it can be uncomfortable for some mothers.
