What facilities are there at Jalama State Beach?
Total of 98 sites, including RV campgrounds and tents. Some sites offer partial connections (electricity and water) and some have full connections including sewage. Jalama Beach does not have 50 amp hookups. The generator hours are from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm
In addition to the tent and RV camping, Jalama Beach also has some yurt-style tents and cabins for rent. The cabins are new and fully furnished, including dishes and appliances. All you have to bring is bedding and food.
The campsites are on staggered levels, with the highest ones offering the best views. Sites 53-64 are right on the beach and have nice bushes between them, giving a lot of privacy.
The camp has bathrooms with toilets and hot showers. They also provide an RV dump site.
Jalama Beach Store sells some necessities and is open daily, although hours vary. It’s a long way to the nearest town or gas station, so it’s best to check your supplies before you go. The Grill’s burgers get a lot of praise from online reviewers.
At Jalama Beach, you can fish for perch, bighead, seaweed, sea bass or halibut. Wildlife is abundant and you can see many birds, whales, and dolphins.
You can go swimming at Jalama beach, but it is subject to strong winds and strong waves and is not recommended. Lifeguards are on duty during the summer.
What you need to know before going to Jalama beach
Dogs are allowed but must be on a leash, 6 feet in length or less. Owners must present proof of rabies vaccination. They charge a fee per day that helps pay for park maintenance.
Book online for tent sites, hookups, cabins, and group areas. Jalama is a county park and is not subject to the strange requirements that California state parks impose. Its reservation system allows you to choose dates up to 6 months in advance. When you’re ready to book, don’t let it confuse you. You must choose Jalama Beach before you start your search or you could accidentally end up with a camping spot elsewhere.
They also have 16 walk-in sites that cannot be booked online. They are assigned from a waiting list and you must be present to access it. The rules and procedures are here.
The beach can be windy and there are few trees. It can also get very cold after sunset. You may not get cell phone service in Jalama Beach, but they do have a dated (but reliable) public phone. Bring coins in case you need to use it.
Raccoons and seagulls can try to share their food and raccoons know how to get into an ice box. It is best to keep everything safe inside your vehicle when it is not in use.

It will take you about an hour to get to Jalama Beach from Santa Barbara. Look for its sign approximately 4.5 miles south of Lompoc on Highway CA 1. Turn onto Jalama Road and drive approximately 15 miles towards the coast.
