The Colombian actor will host this production, based on the original franchise “Inexplicable with William Shatner”, in which scientists, historians, witnesses and experts will address the most shocking mysteries of Latin America.
There are those who believe that the world is not as it seems, or that we do not know even the smallest part of the mysteries it hides … and that our minds are not prepared to understand. In Latin America there are countless inexplicable, paranormal, impressive stories of historical and recent events that, apparently, are impossible.
Stories such as “The chupacabra”, “The miracle of the Andes”, “The black stone of Zacatecas” and, not to go any further, the intriguing history of the place that in the country we know as the Tequendama Falls, are some of the cases that Inexplicable Latin America will address, by the hand of Colombian actor John Leguizamo.
Coming to the small screen as a franchise of the original series Inexplicable with William Shatner , this History show will host Leguizamo. The also producer and comedian has participated in dozens of Hollywood films, such as Super Mario Bross , in which he played Luigi, or Carlitos Way , as the gangster Benny Blanco, and even in the famous John Wick films, starring Keanu Reeves, in which he gave life to the character of Aurelio.
Although he was born in Bogotá on July 22, 1964, his parents migrated to the United States looking for a better future when he was a child. “I remember we arrived in Queens (New York). I started my life in a poor, difficult neighborhood… until at the age of 17 I realized that I had a talent for acting. Then I started writing my own plays and that was what launched me as a writer, producer and actor, ”he says.
His entry into Hollywood was not easy at all, in fact, in his book Pimps, Hos, Playa Hatas, and all the rest of my Hollywood friends: My life , published in 2006, John defines it as a place where there is “a lot of betrayal, oppression and racism ”. It was a long but fruitful process that led him to be one of the most respected Latin American actors in Hollywood for his talent and admirable improvisation skills. “The rejection is great, one must enter Hollywood rejecting it, that’s what I did, I started to write my own plays and scripts because I knew that the industry did not want to accept me, and I found other paths through theater and writing”, He says.
All these paths led him to be part of Inexplicable Latin America , a format with a completely new theme for Leguizamo, because despite having been in film and television, he had never hosted a program like this. “When they called me to offer to be part of the series, I felt very proud, because I love talking about Latin America and its mysteries … being the one to give them a voice is wonderful.”
Hosted by John Leguizamo, this eight-episode first season will tell several stories that attempt to explain how something seemingly impossible can become a reality. In addition, the series will feature testimonies from experts, scientists, historians, researchers of paranormal phenomena and UFOs that will give clarity to the more than 40 unexplained cases that shake the entire continent.
Presenting a program in Spanish was quite a challenge for Leguizamo, as he was used to speaking in English… he had almost completely forgotten the language and had to take classes. “To regain my Spanish I took several courses, the teachers helped me with grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, etc … little by little I was recovering the language and learning to tell these fascinating stories,” he reveals.
Although he grew up far from his roots, this project meant a great opportunity for him to get closer to them. “In the last five years of my career, I have become much more interested in the history of us Latinos, and that is why this project attracted me so much, because it is content that talks about very interesting and unconventional topics on the continent. We are used to seeing what happens in the United States, and I wanted to see something new, something of us, “says Leguizamo, emphasizing that the series will delve into topics such as monstrous beings in the region, Latin American people with mental abilities who manage to connect with different planes of human existence, healers, or cases of people who were not predestined to die.
In his private life, Leguizamo always finds an explanation for strange things that may happen, but he never rules out the possibility that it is something beyond what he considers “real”, although he clarifies that it has nothing to do with religious issues and not they are necessarily linked to a belief. “There are many inexplicable things in life and in the history of humanity in general, but I do not think that everything focuses only on religious experiences, on the contrary, there are really incredible scientific stories that still have no explanation. I’m a little more rational, for me everything has an explanation in some way, even if I don’t understand it at the moment, ”concludes the actor.
This Sunday, May 23, will be full of mystery, because the first episode of Inexplicable Latin America, called Without a trace , from 9:50 pm, will delve into the mysterious and inexplicable disappearances in different regions of this part of the continent, as people who vanish in moments, or entire civilizations that vanish.
In addition, the second season of Inexplicable with William Shatner premieres this Sunday at 9:00 pm on History.
