Kelly Marie Tran defends the controversial sequence of "Star Wars: The Last Jedi"

The character of Rose, played by Vietnamese-born actress Kelly Marie Tran, was created for the discord movie of the new Star Wars trilogy directed by Rian Johnson. Star Wars: The Last Jedi divided the fans, as some think that it was the installment that broke the basic plot of what JJ Abrams started while others believe that it was a brave bet that wanted to offer something new to a saga full of topics and preset formulas. Rose is an essential character in the middle of the story of Finn, Rey and Poe, and yet in the last installment she is condemned to the most absolute ostracism. Faced with the discrepancies about The Last Jedi, Marie Tran wanted to defend particularly the sequence in which her character and Finn travel to the planet of Canto. In the film this duo (accompanied by BB8) must go to the planet of Canto to find a teacher code interpreted by Benicio del toro. Apart from being able to fulfill his mission, this scenario serves to get to know Rose a little more. Tran claimed in an interview for Collider to be delighted with that sequence, as well as remembering her feeling that day: “I remember John (Boyega) and I walked on set and said: This is the biggest set we’ll be on, and I saw to all creatures to move and be part of this. ”For Finn’s character it is also a conciliatory point of Finn’s commitment to resistance, however for Tran it means something more, a social reality of contrasts:“ That sequence does a lot to really recognize how certain communities that can enjoy their privilege live in a world where they don’t even have to address some of the horrible things that other people are dealing with. “The actress finally showed that the connection was special as it reflected her own experiences due to her Vietnamese heritage, adding: “My parents are also from a country devastated by war. They had to escape their home to escape from it… So, in order to exist in a community where I think people were not really aware of the struggles that other people had to make to exist, yes, I identify with that.
