Almost 80 percent of Spanish citizens consider that the Government should legally impose the obligation to include information on the labeling on the climate impact of products , according to a study carried out by the Working Group on Energy and Climate Change of Fundación Entorno- BCSD Spain.
The study also finds that 72 percent of Spaniards are willing to change their consumption habits to fight against climate change . However, on many occasions, they are unable to know which option is the best, "since the information on the labeling is not comparable," as reported in the document. In this sense, the director of Fundación Entorno, Cristina García-Orcoyen, has indicated that "the cause is in the large number of existing labels, a circumstance that confuses the consumer and causes the credibility given to this type of labeling to be low".
The study, in which more than 700 citizens participated, analyzed aspects such as the motivations of Spanish consumers aware of climate change, what is useful and what is not, what difficulties they encounter and what solutions they propose. Thus, when taking action, respondents refer to their commitment to the fight against climate change and feel that they are doing something good. In addition, most turn to scientific sources to stay informed.
