“It’s still too early for that”: Health expert Karl Lauterbach has expressed himself critically with regard to the ESC final in front of a live audience. 3500 fans come together in Rotterdam.
Berlin / Rotterdam (AP) – Health politician Karl Lauterbach considers the final of the Eurovision Song Contest in Rotterdam in front of a live audience for a wrong signal.
“We can’t afford concerts with 3500 spectators yet, it’s still too early for that,” said the SPD politician in an interview with “ZDFheute”. It paints “a wrong picture” of where you currently stand in the pandemic.
Performers from 26 countries will perform at the finale of the 65th Eurovision Song Contest on Saturday evening – from 9 p.m. in the Ahoy Hall in front of around 3,500 fans. Up to 200 million viewers are expected on the screens. Jendrik (starting number 15) competes for Germany with “I Don’t Feel Hate”. The show takes place under strict conditions. All visitors have to show a negative Corona test result, as well as artists and employees.
He does not know what conclusions should emerge from the ESC about how such events could take place in the future. Lauterbach does not see any possibility for indoor concerts in summer – but outdoors.
