Learn about new features in various apps and other tech news of the week

The likes of Facebook and Instagram, the spaces of Twitter, the audios of WhatsApp and the arrival of Didi Food in Colombia are part of the most important announcements of this week.

News from Twitter Spaces

In the last year, millions of people around the world have tried a Twitter function that allows to broadcast live audio-only events, the Spaces. Now the company has extended the scope of its function, which is also available for the platform in its web version, for both mobile and desktop.

Likewise, Spaces from the Twitter website will allow you to configure reminders for scheduled conversations, as well as accessibility functions such as voice-to-text transcriptions.

In addition, the social network clarified at the beginning of last week that it will begin testing in the United States the paid version of the Spaces, the Ticketed Spaces next week. It is a new monetization tool that the technology company will launch.

Users who want to participate must have a thousand or more followers, have organized three Spaces events in the last 30 days and be over 18 years old, as reported by The Verge portal. the hosts will receive 80% of the total collected from the audience, while the social network, in addition to covering the cost of the transaction, will keep 20%.

You can now hide the “likes” in social networks

The Facebook and Instagram platforms will give users the possibility to hide the number of “likes” in the publications under the content they publish in their thread. They will also be able to suspend this popularity indicator for the images and messages they post online.

The search for “likes” worries many psychologists, especially for the mental health of adolescents, exposed on a daily basis to an embellished or completely artificial vision of their environment and their surroundings, and in search of approval on social networks , not to mention the risks of online harassment.

The social media giant did not decide, however, to eliminate the “like” account, since the investigations carried out on the possible consequences of that measure, carried out since 2019 with test groups, were not conclusive, according to the company with based in San Francisco.

To enable the feature and stop seeing the number of likes in other accounts, first go to your profile and click on “settings”. Then choose the option “privacy” and there go to “publications”. You will find an option called “Hide likes and views”. Activate it.

List the WhatsApp function to increase the speed of the audios

The WhatsApp messaging platform launched a function so that its users can change the playback speed of voice notes in their chats. This allows audios to be played at three speeds: 1x (normal), 1.5x and 2x (twice as fast).

However, not all users can see the modality. If you have not been able to activate it, you need to download or update the version of WhatsApp on your cell phone. When playing the audio, on the left side of the voice memo, an option will appear indicating its speed. If you continue pressing, the next speed 1,5 and 2 will appear. If you play once more, the voice memo returns to normal speed.

However, this week it was also known that the Superintendency of Industry and Commerce (SIC) determined that the Information Treatment Policy (PTI) of the messaging app is not in accordance with the Colombian standard of Habeas Data and handling of personal data , as 57.89% fail to comply with the requirements demanded by the Colombian regulation in this matter.

The authority issued a mandatory order to WhatsApp LLC “to implement appropriate measures” through three actions: Create an Information Treatment Policy (PTI) that meets all the requirements required by Colombian regulation; implement an “appropriate, effective and demonstrable mechanism or procedure” so that, at the time of requesting the authorization of people, they are informed of everything that is ordered by article 12 of Statutory Law 1581 of 2012 and register their databases related to the information that Colombia collects or treats in the National Registry of Databases (RNBD).

Arrival of Didi Food in Colombia

Didi Food, the food delivery platform of the Didi company, announced this week its arrival in Colombia as part of its expansion plan in Latin America. The firm said that it seeks to break through in the home sector in the country and “support the restaurant sector within the framework of the economic reactivation.”

The service will begin to be provided in Medellín, where, starting this week, interested restaurants and delivery partners will be able to register on the platform and remain active to begin receiving applications from the application.

“We have a presence in more than 15 countries and we mediate millions of requests a day. This has allowed us, using tools such as artificial intelligence and machine learning, to identify consumption patterns and adapt our platform to the real needs of restaurants, users and delivery partners in Colombia, ”said Carlos Contreras, senior communications manager at Didi for the country.
