The Tokyo Motor Show, or Tokyo Auto Salon, took place last weekend (January 14-16) and has brought us remarkable images from Lexus. Toyota’s premium firm did not want to miss the appointment, giving something to talk about for its futuristic proposals and very focused on the world of 4×4. Prototypes displayed on their stand were the NX Offroad plug-in hybrid, ROV buggy, and LX 600 Offroad all-terrain vehicle . All of them are cars that we will hardly see circulating on our roads but they serve as an example of what the firm is capable of doing, beyond what will be a reality, or not, in the coming years. A future in which the aspect of fun behind the wheel will be taken into account.
A future that would be difficult, due to environmental approvals and regulations, for the preparation of the Lexus LX 600 Offroad. This authentic off-roader, which flees from the firm’s usual luxurious and urban SUV concept, mounts a 3.5-liter V6 block that produces 415 hp. It would be associated with a 10-speed automatic transmission to transmit the 650 Nm of maximum torque to the two drive axles. Undoubtedly, the off-road capabilities of this concept car would be assured by its heritage: it derives from the current Toyota Land Cruiser.
Very 4×4 is also the Lexus ROV, a purely recreational vehicle to enjoy driving on the track and in the mountains. Of course, and as an important novelty, this rolling amusement park mounts a hydrogen-powered engine. It is still a round idea to enjoy nature without creating a negative impact on it, avoiding the emissions and noise typical of thermal blocks.
Last but not least, the NX Offroad PHEV based on the technology that Lexus debuts in the NX 450h+. Plug-in hybrids seem to be the ideal, and more coherent, preliminary step towards the fleet’s electrification process. Showing the customization options, and adaptation to a jacket need, is a success on the part of the Japanese firm.
